The qualifying round is closed and the gold, silver and bronze groups are defined for the Boys Fleet pending a protest hearing scheduled in the morning, and gold and silver for the Girls Fleet. The third day has been marked by the discard that has led to changes in the overall places in each fleet.
In the Boys' Fleet, the new leader is Can Erturk from Turkey, with a 2nd and 1st place today in Race 5 and 6, who concludes the qualifying round with 8 points. In 2nd place is Blake Wilson (AUS) moving up from 3rd place overall yesterday for a total 13 points. Yesterday’s leader Ioannis-Christos Mouzakis (GRE) drops to third place but is tied in points with Wilson. He had finishes today of 15th and 6th.
Only 8 points separate the top 6 competitors in the Boys Fleet going into the final series tomorrow.
Donna Mazzucchelli (ARG) continues to dominate the Girls Fleet. Today, she won both races, to give her 4 first place finishes out of 6 races in the qualifying series . Her worst drop race was a 3rd. Following Mazzurcchelli are teamates from Germany, Cosima Schlueter and Katharina Schwachhofer in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Cosima Schlueter has 11 points, while Katharina Schwachhofer is further back with 28 points. There is a 3 point spread between 3rd and 6th place for the Girls Fleet overall heading into the final series.
Tomorrow, Friday August 4, begins the final series over the next two days for the Boys Fleet and Girls Fleet. Two races are planned for each day to wrap up a 4-race final series and 10 race series overall. The weather and wind conditions are expected to continue to be the same over the next few days.
